Ashtanga with Lisa Tendler

Ashtanga with Lisa Tendler

Ashtanga is an ancient system of yoga that unites breath, focus points, and postures to create a concentrated meditative self practice. The practice is done with a set series of postures learned gradually over a period of time, in vinyasa style, creating internal heat to purify the body, improving circulation, for strong body and a calm mind. This class will sometimes deviate from the tradional sequence of the practice so come with an open mind and heart.

** Appropriate for someone new to the practice or those who are looking to refine or recommit to their practice.

Back to Balance: Gentle Yoga for the Spine, Hips, Shoulders and Neck

Sundays 4:00-5:30 PM

September 22nd, September 29th

This is a series of short yoga workshops based on Raven's book Back to Balance: Heal Your Spine, Heal Your Life. The focus will be on re-balancing and re-aligning your spine through a series of poses, movements and breathing techniques which relieve excess tension while, at the same time, nourish any areas that need support. No previous yoga experience is necessary.

·      Part 1 will focus on the spine itself and therapeutic yoga especially designed to keep it moving in the most healthy and gentle of ways. It will also focus on hips and legs, as they connect to and work with the lumbar spine in particular, to move you forward in life.

·      Part 3 will focus on the arms, shoulders and neck -- as the connect to the cervical, thoracic spine and base of the skull; identifying the places which are in the most need of release and finding the poses and movements which will work best for you as you work to release and open.

The workshops are all yoga-oriented, but Raven will also talk about the use acupuncture, massage therapy and energy work for pain relief. These modalities work very effectively in combination with therapeutic yoga.

Ideally, you will sign up for all three segments of the workshop to get a complete education, but you are also welcome to only take one or two if that is all your schedule will allow.

Each workshop is 1 and 1/2 hours and is $30.00. Or take all 3 for $75.00. Space is limited to 15 people.

Please wear comfortable clothing to move in and a top that is more form-fitting so that you can be most at ease in the poses. We will be using various props in our practice. If you do have a yoga foam block (any size), please do bring it.
